Mother
Elias, the foundress of the Congregation of the Carmelite
Religious (C.C.R), herself a native of Ireland, came to the
city of Trivandrum and established the Convent of the Holy
Angels' on the 10th of November, 1880. On the 20th of November,
the school was opened, prior to the introduction of the KER.
It was then divided into two branches- English and the Vernacular.
By the year 1888, the school had secured the rare distinction
of being the first girls' school in South India to have presented
students for the Matriculation Examination of the Madras University.
In 1896, the school was upgraded to a second grade college
with the formation of an F.A class but eventually the college
section had to be closed down in 1906.
The main Apostolate of the CCR is education in the Missions,
which same is made possible by establishing Schools, Boarding
Houses, Hostels and Orphanages for Indian girls of every race
and creed. Holy Angels' Convent Higher Secondary School is
one such institution among many, which caters to the educational
needs of the city of Trivandrum. The primary aim and objective
of this institute is to give our students an all round education
and to make them morally upright, physically fit and intellectually
alert, so that they in turn would turn out to be assets to
our nation.

The School is at present under the able management of Rev.
Mother Mary Frances, the Superior General of the Congregation
of the Carmelite Religious. The present principal, Rev. Sr.
Louisa Francis assumed charge in the year 2003. The school
boasts of a strength of over 6000 students, mostly girls;
boys are allowed to study up to the IV standard. Both English
and Malayalam are used as the media for instruction. The school
caters to the ever-changing needs of the student community
and it has a well furnished library of over 20,000 books,
a fully equipped and upgraded computer lab, laboratory facilities,
huge sprawling buildings and beautiful gardens- all this night
in the heart of the city of Trivandrum.
Down the ages, the school has been in the forefront of curricular,
co curricular and extra-curricular activities. The students
of Holy Angels' Convent Higher Secondary School have always
come out with flying colours at the SSLC Examinations conducted
by the Board of Public Examinations.
The PTA was formed in 1999. Since Its inception, the PTA has
been working hand in hand with the Management towards the
successful and smooth functioning of the institution. The
Alumni of this institution have joined hands to contribute
their mite towards its growth. In the year 2001, the Alumni
Association of the Students of Holy Angels' (AASHA) took shape
and has since been working together with the Management.
Many activities have been introduced in the school as part
of its ongoing quest for excellence and its aim of imparting
an all round education to its student community. An active
Guide Company functions in the school. For the last few years,
our Guides have taken part in the National Integration Camps
held in Kerala, Karnataka and New Delhi. These guides have
been proud recipients of the President's Guide Certificate
and other cash awards from the State Bharat Scouts and Guides.
The school has two flocks of Bulbuls who regularly attend
the Bulbul National Utsava. The Guides and Bulbuls also help
in distribution of books and old clothes to the underprivileged
students.
In order to nurture the latent talents of our students, HAC
has launched various clubs. The Science, Social Science, Mathematics
clubs, and the IT and the Literary clubs are some of the newer
initiatives. These endeavours help our students to grow and
bloom, as they enhance their knowledge and expand their personal
horizons of learning. They also foster active participation,
student interaction, and group activities like projects, assignments
and exhibitions and in general, the students acquire a thirst
for knowledge, which is the essence of the learning experience.
The school also encourages its budding sports persons by providing
them with ample opportunities and the necessary facilities
to develop their talents. The students have a variety of sporting
activities at their disposal beginning right from PT, Aerobics,
Basketball and Volleyball to Athletics. Our talented students
do exceedingly well at the Sub-District,
District, and State Level Sports Meets. An Inter-House Sports
Meet is conducted annually to foster the spirit of healthy
competition.
Our school is well represented at the various co-curricular
competitions held in the city. Our students have bagged many
prizes for literary competitions like Elocution, Recitation,
Essay and Short-Story writing, Debates, Quizzes and also in
non-literary items in the song and dance category. The annual
Sub-District, District, and State Level Youth Festivals have
seen our students secure the overall championship many a time.
The concerted efforts of the staff, parents and the students
have borne much fruit over the years, as our students are
blessed with an all-round growth in their personality.
With the delinking of the Pre-Degree Courses at the University
level, out Management deemed it their responsibility to accommodate
those outgoing students who were deprived of admission in
the regular stream. Holy Angels' Convent started the classes
for Plus One under the Kerala State open School with this
objective in mind in the year 2001.
The present academic year (2002-2003) has seen the fulfillment
of a longstanding dream, with the sanctioning of the Plus
Two in the unaided sector. The school has opted for the Science
with Biology stream having Malayalam/ Hindi/ French as second
language.
We owe much to our predecessors who have established a great
tradition of excellence. Our school is thus a multifaceted
institution working for the betterment of the student community.
Students who have passed through its portals will bear testimony
to the fact that the institution has moulded them to be better
citizens and service-minded women. The school hopes to brighten
the lives of many more students as they light the torch of
their knowledge at the flame of the temple of learning and
walk down its avenues into the wide world carrying with them
the motto " Love all, Serve all". |
